IN your article about the calls for a crossing over the A40 at the Collinwood Road junction in Headington ‘Calls to find cash for pelican crossing at Oxford’s Green Road roundabout,’ October 16, Cllr David Nimmo-Smith says that there is no money available.

There seems to be plenty of money available for what I consider “cosmetic” projects such as Frideswide Square that really does not need any change at the moment.

Is it not more appropriate for both the city and county councils to put schemes such as these on hold until they have completed the real needs of communities?

The councils seem to be obsessed with cyclists and motorists and ignore pedestrians as the OCC sign confirms where the subway is blocked off at Green Road, “Improving for motorists and cyclists.”

I ask both to get their priorities right and listen to the people. Can Cllr Nimmo-Smith also explain why the bus lane is closed from Thornhill to Green Road? Surely this is over the top if it is for the safety of those working over the subway.

If it was operating as before, with the traffic lights continuing to allow the buses to join the main carriageway, this would help the traffic flow and also encourage motorists to use the Park and Ride without any risk to those working.
