Several times I’ve read the arguments put forward in your feature ‘Should we be more like Cambridge’ October 8, and came to the conclusion that what councillor David Henwood had to say was pure waffle because it didn’t address the question raised by Peter Thompson.

I don’t think Peter was suggesting that we were in competition with Cambridge but that we might learn from some of the things that Cambridge does.

Cambridge industry benefits from the scientific knowledge generated by the university and we have an area from Milton through to Culham that could do even better, but for the poor transport links.

The rail network, with its hub at Didcot, serves the area well and the M4 could be a good east west road but, as Peter points out, for the appalling A34 north south road. Until a real effort is made to tackle the A34 it will continue to deter investment in mid Oxfordshire.
