Local hospital managers should hang their heads in shame at only now thinking of possibly paying their staff a ‘living wage’ (Hospital chiefs considering paying staff a ‘living wage’, 11 October).
This comes some while after NHS trust directors awarded themselves massive bonuses.
As they are only now ‘considering’ introducing a living wage, it suggests that their workers currently receive less than enough to live on, especially when housing shortages mean that workers have to pay over the odds for accommodation.
Having many times benefited from the hard work of hospital staff, I know they deserve a living wage – and more.

Shouldn’t the NHS be a public service, not a device for feathering managers’ nests?
