I am writing concerning the recent article about Hospital Trust management bonuses ‘Mixed views on payments of bonuses to NHS bosses’ October 2.
So our trust directors and managers are saying in effect: “Unless you pay me an extra £40,000 plus a year I will not do my level best for my £200,000pa salary?” That is what bonus payment in effect is.
It has been my experience that most management effort has to be invested when results are not good not when they are.
Paying people tens of thousands of pounds extra for doing what they are supposed to be doing anyway is to my mind, perverse.
