I am writing with regards to the recent comment on Operation Bullfinch and the suggestion that perhaps some police supervisory ranks should resign. Might I just add something to the mix?
In the past senior police officers would seek legal advice and then the decision was theirs, but now it is the province of Crown Prosecution Services to make the decision on whether there is sufficient evidence to satisfy their criteria before proceedings are commenced.
Will the review reveal how many other suspects were put up for such consideration but the Crown Prosecution Service refused to give the evidence an airing in open court?
Let’s not aim all the blame until we know if perhaps there are others equally as culpable.
The Chief Constable has already apologised and said lessons have been learned. But that relates surely to investigation.
The CPS appears to have some questions also to answer, but will they? Don’t hold your breath.
