Last week saw a celebration of Cowley built cars in Templars Square Shopping Centre with the grand finale on Sunday at Cowley Classic Car Show.

I organised the display of cars in Templars Square and I would like to thank all those who came and spoke to me. Not surprisingly, there was a constant flow of former Cowley employees, the longest serving worker that I spoke to was there for 48 years. I also spoke to many children who did not realise just how long cars had been built at Cowley and were fascinated by the 1926 Bullnose Morris.

I would also like to thank Templars Square for inviting me to organise the display and the owners of the Cowley built cars who trusted me with their cars for the week. Putting on these events, which both celebrate Cowley’s motor manufacturing history and educates people about it would not be possible without the generosity of these car owners.

Oxford Mail:

  • A Morris Motors clock tag dating back to the 1950s that a former worker carries with him. EM stands for Electric Maintenance and the number was his clock number

Due to the success of the display in Templars Square, I have been asked to organise another larger Cowley car display next August, in the run up to the car show.

Cowley has a fantastic history of motor manufacture spanning the past 101 years, which continues today with the critically acclaimed and very successful Mini.

It is important that we both celebrate this success and ensure that the younger generation know of Cowley’s motor manufacturing history. I hope you enjoy a couple of photos above from my time in Templars Square.
