I am writing in response to Mr Tanner’s letter of August 15.

He states only a Labour government will freeze energy bills. So before the general election the energy bills could go up, and somehow Labour have managed to scrape in, so that means no fuel bill increase in 2016 and 2017 but come 2018 a fuel bill increase with a possibility of the increase covering the previous two years.

And tax breaks for people paying the living wage – the tax break has to be replaced from elsewhere, surely.

Guaranteed paid work for every young person – that would be great if there was work out there and immigration was brought under control to allow youngsters the opportunity to work because the work is out there.

Reverse the tax cuts for millionaires – I think most people would be ok with that (apart from the millionaires).

Finally balance the books? The present government are still trying to balance the books from the last disaster of the previous government with a policy of spending what we ain't got. Or as one Labour minister put it “Good luck, there’s nothing left we’ve spent it.”
