I HAVE tried to go swimming with the aim to teach my grandson how to swim. However, I cannot get into a swimming pool when I want, like in the old days, and when I say when I want, I mean when I want.

All the pools in Oxford are closed to general swimmers due to them being used for this function, or that training period, or some other silly reason and, when you can get in, you cannot use the whole pool because of some reason or other.

I did bring this up with the staff of Temple Cowley Pools, only to be informed that there are no pools in Oxford that open up their whole pool. I seriously object to this. I pay to use the pool, not part of the pool but the whole pool. I don’t mind sharing the pool with others, I do object to having most of the pool being closed to the mass of the people using the thing.

Yesterday I drove around for two hours trying to get into a pool, from 3-5.15pm and I could not get in anywhere. This is wrong, especially on a hot day.

My grandson was getting worried we would not be able get in. I had to try to tell him it was because the council, as usual, was playing mind games with the people who pay the council tax.

Is it too much to ask that somewhere in Oxford, at any time I want, I should be able to get into an indoor pool to go swimming, also to teach my grandson how to swim, at some time during the day, Nowhere in Oxford, is there a pool open for general swimming, not part of the pool but the whole thing. I think this is not too much to ask.
