READING the article (April 9) entitled ‘No Joke as April Fool stunt gets a fine’, I agree with Oxford City Council on fining Mr Alasdair de Voil, for his unsightly prank. He currently has bicycles (one on the corner of Cornmarket Street outside Waterstones) which is an eyesore and his flyers and litter are often discarded in the city on the ground.

His marketing material and bicycles, etc, clutter the town up and look unsightly, to be honest. I think he cheapens the image, culture and heritage of our beautiful city and much of his advertising is very misleading.

I love my city and cherish its architecture, culture and history and heritage and I find Mr De Voil does not create a good impression for tourists and residents alike.

As for his comment that he has no intention of paying – I do hope that if he doesn’t pay that the city council pursue him through the legal system – why should he get away with littering, loitering and fly posting?

I would be interested to hear what other readers and proud residents of our beautiful city think.
