WILL Vale of White Horse District Council explain to us in their headlong dash to concrete over our beautiful county whether they are planning homes for jobs, or jobs for homes?

In their leaflet ‘Housing Delivery Update’ VWHDC identify greenfield sites for nearly 12,000 homes to satisfy the Strategic Market Housing Assessment (SHMA).

Under the heading ‘Jobs and Employment’ the leaflet states: “An economic assessment prepared to inform the SHMA identifies potential for 22,980 additional jobs between 2011 and 2031. Sufficient homes must be provided to help meet the future labour supply requirements of our local economy.”

In the paper last week you reported: “The developer that has bought a large area of the former Didcot A power station has been warned it should not build houses on the site.”

The report quotes Matthew Barber, Leader of the Vale of White District Council: “We have to make sure there are enough jobs to go with the new homes that are being built in the area, including those at Great Western Park and Valley Park.”

So, on one hand VWHDC is telling us that houses have to be built to provide labour for non-existent jobs. On the other hand, VWHDC is telling us that jobs have to be provided for non-existent homes.

Is Vale of White Horse District Council competent to plan the future of our county? I think not.
