Could someone from Oxford City Council please explain to the residents of Headington just what is going on in their main shopping area.

Yet another food outlet is being prepared to open in the near future, this time a Tesco convenience store.

We already have the Co-op, Waitrose, Iceland, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Londis and there is also talk of Asda coming soon.

The council in their wisdom have granted permission for all these supermarkets to muscle in and as a result, the character of Headington has dramatically changed for the worst.

These multinational companies have moved in to premises formally occupied by small independent businesses forced out by extortionate rents and greedy landlords.

While it is nice to have plenty of food outlets to choose from, do we really need all these shops within a few hundred yards of each other?

I dread to think what the Headington shopping area will look like in another 10 years.
