MADRID, Fulham... Botley. This headline (November 12) neatly sums up in three words exactly what is wrong with the Doric development proposals for Botley. Wrong plans, wrong place.
The total population of Botley, of all ages, is around 5,000, which is likely to rise to about 6,000 when the already planned new housing is completed, far too small to sustain the size of development planned.
So who is this £100m development really for? The Fulham Broadway development proudly mentioned by Doric and costing the same as Botley, has 12 million visitors per year. An estimated 1.8 million people live or work within a 20-minute drive of the slightly more expensive Nassica development on the outskirts of Madrid, that they also developed. Where will the necessary millions of visitors to the Botley development come from? The entire population of Oxfordshire is less than 700,000.
If, as Doric claim, there will be no increase in traffic as a result of this development, there will be extremely long queues at the bus stops.
