COMMENT: A toast to Sarah

SO WHEN Oxonians were asked to suggest modern, 20th century Oxford icons, the list they came up with included author Philip Pullman and model Yasmin Le Bon.

Thank goodness museum staff at the town hall have plumped for Morse creator Colin Dexter and former Lord Mayor Olive Gibbs. Admirable choices, yes, but maybe not as admirable as19th century Sarah Jane Cooper who created marmalade.

After all, there’s someone most of us ‘toast’ every day.
