It seems a blinking match is being staged between the city council and the potential developers of a city centre site.
Carlyle Group wants to spend £22m to create a shopping centre behind St Aldate’s and Queen Street.
It says the plans are ready to be submitted, but there is a row over section 106 money – money it would have to pay over for projects to benefit the community as part of the deal.
The council is obviously eager to make sure it gets the best deal for the city. But, let’s face it, Oxford urgently needs this kind of investment, which would boost employment and shopping.
We hope there is a speedy resolution.
