WANTAGE MP Ed Vaizey is entirely correct when he brands the scheme to reduce the eastbound A420 dual carriageway at Longworth to a single lane as “ridiculous”.

In the sterile atmosphere of an office it might appear to be a reasonable plan to make the area safer if Hanson’s plans for sand extraction are given the go-ahead.

But out on the A420 it will be met with frustration, exasperation and no doubt some dangerous driving.

You cannot penalise thousands of motorists every day for the benefit of one company.
