THE news that two of the primary schools in Blackbird Leys are failing is a matter for major concern.
Hundreds of pupils, and their parents, are looking at Windale and Orchard Meadow primary schools to give them the best start to education.
This is even more important on an estate that has been neglected before and can be tarred with an unfair brush.
The best way to elevate its children is through education, but the trust in charge is failing to do this.
Students not knowing the difference between squares and rectangles makes worrying reading for any parent.
Perhaps more alarming is that Blackbird Leys Academy Trust, which runs both schools as well as Pegasus, was brought in to improve results.
But Orchard Meadow has just had a damning Oxfsted inspection and Windale is in special measures, some 18 months after coming under the trust’s control.
If results do not get better soon, serious questions need to be asked of the trust, and of the academies programme.
Our children deserve better than this.
