MORE than 16 years have passed since the death of Jane Evason’s teenage son Gareth who was killed by a driver over the alcohol limit.

But clearly the pain of losing him hasn’t faded and it’s hard to imagine the grief the family has endured over the years.

On the 50th anniversary of the Government’s first anti-drink-drive campaign, Gareth’s mother called for a zero tolerance.

The anniversary of the first campaign has bought the issue back on to the agenda but there is a long way to go and the debate on the amount of alcohol allowed continues.

Let’s hope Mrs Evason’s message hits home and stops more lives being lost.
