CLOSING Queen Street to buses is seen by many as radical. It is very easy though to propose a radical change.

The hard part is providing a radical solution to where those buses will then go. As a key shopping district, Queen Street is a bit of a mess at present, with buses driving down what otherwise looks and feels to visitors like a pedestrianised area.

Banning the buses makes some sense, therefore, but it cannot happen without a credible solution to the congestion problems the action will obviously cause.
