THE severe pressure on primary school places in Oxfordshire means education bosses need to think of new and innovative ideas to solve the crisis.

It makes sense to look at expanding St Gregory the Great School in Cricket Road, Cowley.

Under the plans £2.6m will be spent on refurbishing empty council buildings to accommodate more pupils.

The concept of children spending their entire school education on the same site may cause parents to worry.

Indeed, with plans for a private nursery as well, youngsters could be on the same site from babies through to the age of 18.

The idea of a three-year-old going to a 1,500-pupil school and rubbing shoulders with teenagers may seem daunting.

Education bosses and school staff will need to make sure this is properly planned out.

But with the right physical changes to the school’s buildings to separate youngsters into their appropriate age groups and perhaps different timings to the school days, there is no reason why this will not work.
