Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has revealed he has no designs on moving in Oxfordshire society circles, despite the coalition double act he has formed with Prime Minister David Cameron.

Quizzed about reports that Mr Cameron had attended a social event with News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks over Christmas, Mr Clegg told New Statesman: “If you’ve got an issue with it, speak to Dave. I don’t hang out in Oxfordshire at dinner parties. It’s not my world. It’s never going to be my world.”

So one thing’s for sure, Mr Clegg blew his chances of a party invite from the interviewer, Jemima Khan.

The former wife of Pakistani cricketer turned politician Imran Khan owns the £15m Kiddington Hall, near Woodstock.

It’s a shame. Mr Clegg also revealed he has played tennis with the PM, and Ms Khan’s nine-bedroom pile has a court.

The former Lib Dem MP for Oxford West and Abingdon Dr Evan Harris seems to have a higher media presence since he was ousted from his seat last May.

The champion of UK science makes frequent TV appearances to give us the benefit of his knowledge.

But his commentary hasn't impressed everyone.

Oxfordshire County Council leader Keith Mitchell was provoked into this dismissive tweet after Evan’s latest TV role: “Evan Harris lost his parliamentary seat last year and there he is prattling on about the NHS on tonight’s Oxford news. Get a job, Evan.”

Oxford City Council leader Bob Price is playing his part in the Town Hall belt-tightening exercise. The Labour councillor has been moved to a much smaller office as the authority prepares to squeeze more workers into its St Aldate’s offices and sell off blocks elsewhere.

But he has added some personal touches to make it feel like home.

Inside the door he has a poster of his political hero... but it’s not Labour leader Ed Miliband, it is US President Barack Obama.

The council has recently adopted a “strong leadership” model of power. Perhaps the Town Hall will get a lick of white paint as part of the refurbishment?

And so to the latest installment in the trials and tribulations of being the Oxfordshire County Council cycling champion. Councillor Arash Fatemian broke his arm when he fell off his bike earlier this year but he is now back in the saddle.

Well, kind of.

This is his report of a recent two-wheeled jaunt: “Um... that was embarrassing! Was supposed to be on 45km bike ride to Banbury but had a blow out and had to wait for a 4x4 rescue!”

And Mr Fatemian still has work to do in promoting cycle safety.

An Insider spy reports that Oxford East MP Andrew Smith was cycling through the city recently without a helmet.
