Following his fortnight’s holiday, Vince was back at the helm of his beloved vessel, the Plough (Wolvercote).

With fellow Premiership outfit the Royal Blenheim (Oxford City) providing the opposition, the returning commander knew victory would almost certainly guarantee retention of the divisional title.

A three-point advantage at the break was reduced to a single one a round later. However, displaying an awesome knowledge of all things Glaswegian, a substantial gap was created and thereafter maintained, despatching ‘Ben Stokes’ and his crew back to the city on the receiving end of a 77-68 scoreline.

With two fixtures remaining, the Plough could afford a hiccup this Thursday against their arch-nemesis, the Ploughman’s Bunch!, knowing a positive result against lower division opponents, the Bell (Lower Heyford), seven days later would land them the championship pennant.

The Green Road Club (Kidlington) find themselves in a similar position in Section One after they comfortably saw off the Seacourt Bridge (Botley), 70-53. Their two remaining games with the White Hart (Eynsham) and the Bletchingdon Nomads are no gimmees but even defeats may not prevent them from league success.

Lying second, the Nomads edged home in their contest with visitors, the Blue Boar (Chipping Norton). The ‘Busby Babes’ established a two point lead at the interval but the hosts moved three points ahead and prevailed 66-65.

Match reporter ‘Bernie’ relayed that honours were even after the first round in the head to head between the Black Swan (East Oxford) and the Royal Sun (Begbroke). Unfortunately, that was as good as it got for Captain Conway and his charges as they were eventually thumped 74-46.

The North Oxford Conservative Club were also on the wrong end of a tonking meted out by the Bunch! Always behind the eight ball, a disastrous last round (2-14) consigned the Summertown team to a 60-84 dismissal.

The Winter Leagues 2015/16 begin at the end of October.
