Supplementing your diet can help you feel better and give you more energy. I’m not talking protein shakes and you really don’t have to be a gym fanatic before you consider taking supplements.

In today’s society we have a battle on our hands when it comes to creating a healthier, leaner and more energetic body. The way our food and drinks are produced is so different to years ago. The result? We have a constant battle with the amount of additives and preservatives in our food.

My advice is to start by eating organic foods, grass-fed meat, wild fish and organic vegetables. There are a lot less toxins in these products and they won’t be sprayed with pesticides.

I know that because of our lifestyle many of us may struggle with this. Organic foods tend to be more expensive and then there is the issue of finding time to prepare meals. But really a little forward planning, and knowledge, can help.

Buy your protein products from fishmongers and butchers and vegetables from farmers’ markets or from an organic company that sells vegetable boxes – they all deliver. Doing it this way you will find isn’t much more expensive to shopping in supermarkets.

Supplements are sometimes needed to improve mineral levels which may be low, even if you are following a healthy diet, because of previous bad eating habits, stress, exercise, disease or allergies. The quality of the supplement and dosage levels is also important otherwise you won’t gain the benefits from taking them.

Three products that I advise to take, whether you exercise or not are: A high quality fish oil (Omega 3) which can improve brain function, alertness, the nervous system and heart function; increase fat loss and decrease blood pressure and stress, and inflammation in tissue and organs.

But make sure you buy good quality Omega 3 or it will taste fishy and can upset your stomach.

A greens supplement increases antioxidant level and speed of recovery; boosts mineral and vitamin levels and strengthens your immune system.

Coconut oil is amazing, not only to use for cooking but also to use as a moisturiser.

The benefits are endless – for a start, it increases your metabolism; promotes a lean body and weight loss; improves your heart; boosts your thyroid and even support your immune system.
