AN ORCHARD and allotments will be built for residents of a new estate.

Developer Taylor Wimpey has submitted plans for its green spaces in Great Western Park, the 3,300 home estate in Didcot.

Planned for the southern part of the site, allotment plots will be offered to people living nearby while the orchard will be open to the public.

Didcot Town Council is expected to take on the waiting list for the new plots but earlier this year the council said it didn't know if it would be fully responsible for running the site when it is finished.

The site will be bordered with native hedgerows and contain a communal storage area.

Plans for various pieces of 'street furniture' including bins, cycle stands and signage have also been detailed.

The first residents moved on to Great Western Park in 2014 and building work has continued apace since then with the estimated date for completion of all the homes set for 2022.

The site already has a new park with various sports facilities as well as new schools, shops and a community centre.

A planning application for the orchard and allotments has been lodged with South Oxfordshire District Council and a target decision date has been set for October 25.
