A STATELY home has applied for planning permission to build a canopy to cover the outside amphitheatre.
The proposed build will mean the outside theatre in the eight-acre Waterperry Gardens, which can only be used during the summer months, will be suitable for use all year.
Applicants have applied for a steel framed tapered canopy, with a curved roof, which will be 19 metres long and will arch over the seating area to provide shelter.
The surface finish of the canopy posts will be galvanised steel, and the roof covering will be be cladded with fire proof fabric.
Rainwater run–off from the roof will be collected in an aluminium mill.
The theatre is in the gardens of the estate, which is based in the village of Waterperry near Wheatley.
The gardens boast a plant centre, tea room and gallery, museum.
South Oxfordshire District Council has set the target decision date for September 5.
The planning application can be viewed on the website using the reference code P18/S2271/FUL
