A SCHOOL playground was transformed into a market square for a French-themed day.

Pupils at Christ Church Cathedral School in central Oxford enjoyed themed food and activities on Tuesday for their school's French Day.

Children across the boys' prep school and nursery learned abut the language, music, history and culture of the country.

They ate a food spread for lunch including terrine, crepes, baguettes, Camembert cheese and fresh fruit and vegetables.

The school's deputy head academic Robin Harskin, who is leading a school trip to France this month, said: 'The children love to find out about France.

"I even got them singing La Marseillaise [the French national anthem] in assembly."
