A DEVICE made by Williams F1 in Grove to reduce the energy used by fridges is up for a national award.
The Aerofoil device, which Williams has developed in collaboration with Aerofoil Energy, is among three projects shortlisted for this year’s Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award.
The awards are described as ‘the UK’s longest-running and most prestigious national prize for engineering innovation’, recognising ‘outstanding innovation’ combined with proven commercial success and tangible social benefit.
Williams says Aerofoil is ‘a new aerodynamic device’ which ‘significantly reduces the energy consumed by refrigerators in supermarkets and convenience stores by retaining more of the cold air inside’.
The company, which has developed the device with its advanced engineering arm, says it can be retrofitted to a fridge to help cut energy but also to make supermarket aisles significantly warmer for shoppers.
This year’s MacRobert award winners will be announced in due course.
