WIDE-eyed pupils from Oxfordshire schools will get to witness the world's biggest airshow.

Children from 15 primary and secondary schools in the county will be among 6,500 pupils from 116 UK schools who will get to enjoy the Royal International Air Tattoo.

The spectacle takes place annually at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, and will see aircraft paint streaks of colour as they loop through the sky.

Schools will take part in a workshop at the airshow on Friday, July 13, run by school science organisation STEMworks.

Children will be invited to take part in a special STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) challenge and visit the Air Tattoo's 'Techno Zone'.

This will provide interactive displays focusing on 100 years in technology, to coincide with the 100th year of the RAF.

Partaking schools in Oxfordshire include Clanfield CE Primary School near Bampton, and Edith Moorhouse Primary School in Carterton.

Sandra Keen, the Air Tattoo's Techno Zone coordinator, said: “We hope that the Techno Zone and innovation trail will inspire the next generation of engineers.

"In order to pursue a career in engineering and aviation, children need to be actively interested in the sciences before they choose their GCSEs.

"Hopefully the children’s visit to the airshow will fuel their passion and ignite their imagination."
