PARENTS and children are calling for support for plans to transform a play area near Launton Primary School.

The Friends of Launton School have applied for a slice of funding to improve a playing field to the back of the primary school in Launton, near Bicester.

It says the present space is currently unusable for nine months of the year as it is not dry enough and means children have to crowd into the school playground at break times.

The school charity hope to change this and has applied for funding from Calor Gas which is offering up £5,000 to community causes.

The first stage of the process requires the public to vote for their favourite projects and the Friends of Launton Primary School is calling for help from the community.

It has asked people to vote for the project online before June 29 to help it get through to the grand final.

The plans which the charity has put forward to Calor Gas include wooden equipment to create a trail of activities for the schoolchildren.

It has said the initial plans will enable children to enjoy the space all year round and achieve the 60 minutes of daily exercise recommended for children.

Costing £10,000, the proposed plans include a 200 metre long 'hoggin path' which is made of all-weather materials, costing £6,000.

Play equipment will cost £4,000 and the school will ask the children to see what equipment would be most popular.

The school project has received 7,300 votes so far. To vote go to calor.co.uk/communityfund/launton-school-field-improvement-project
