AN INSURANCE company will give business people in Witney a crash course in GDPR.

All businesses face a potential risk from data breaches or systems interruptions due to a cyber-attack.

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies in the UK now, and to comply with this regulation businesses must constantly monitor for data security breaches.

Any identified must be notified within 72 hours and if a business fails to comply with the GDPR there are hefty penalties.

There is also the potential risk that directors, officers and employees face when allegations are made against them, unfounded or otherwise.

NFU Mutual Witney and Oxford, based in Witney, is hosting a free morning seminar tomorrow to help business owners, directors or managers learn how they can better protect their business once GDPR is in place.

Prior to the Companies Act 1985 it was nearly impossible to pursue anyone other than the corporate body following an incident or event. The legislative changes this Act introduced allow actions to be taken against directors and officers personally. This exposes the individual’s personal wealth to unlimited liability that had historically been ring-fenced by the creation of a corporate body.

The event will be held at Witney Lakes Resort, in Downs Road, tomorrow starting at 9.30am.

Anyone wishing to attend the informative seminar to learn how they can better protect themselves and their business can email witney@nfumutual.co.uk or phone 01993 776716.
