STUDENTS recorded songs at a specialist college ahead of a gig at one of Oxford’s most popular live music venues.

City of Oxford College’s music department utilised a recording room at SAE Institute in Littlemore, which focusses on media subjects.

Young musicians were welcomed to the college to record songs for their EPs, which will form part of their coursework.

They will perform their songs live at a project finale at the O2 Academy in Cowley Road, on May 21 and 22.

Ollie Rodgers, a second year City of Oxford College student and indie rock musician in his band Eunoia, said: “Recording at SAE Institute was an amazing experience.

“It gave a real insight into the recording processes, which ran seamlessly without fault.”

The student praised ‘outstanding’ facilities and expertise at SAE, which has welcomed City of Oxford students as part of an ongoing partnership between the two colleges.

It has benefited SAE by providing live music scenarios for its audio production students to gain experience with.

Nick Reiber-Hodgson, a music lecturer at City of Oxford, said: “The most recent project coordinated has enabled our students to gain invaluable experience of recording in a live lounge setting.

“We felt that an opportunity to visit the campus and engage with practical workshops would be extremely advantageous for our students. “

SAE, based at Littlemore Park, is also set to host an assessed gig for the college’s first year music students at the end of the month.
