A WORLD literacy summit is to take place in Oxford later this month.

Speakers will include Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands, Vogue model and Literacy Ambassador Lily Cole and Oxford East MP Anneliese Dodds.

The World Literacy Summit, which run from Monday, March 26 to Wednesday, March 28, will attract over 300 of the world’s best known literacy and educational leaders, institutions, organisations and pioneers to collaborate, debate and share ideas on how to close the global literacy gap in the 21st century.

Registration will take place both on Sunday evening from 6pm at Trinity College, opposite the Sheldonian Theatre, and also at 9am at the theatre.

The summit website said: “The opening ceremony will commence at 9:30am on Monday and will also include the presentation of the 2018 World Literacy Council Awards.

“ A feature of the 2018 Opening Ceremony will be the Albert Schweitzer Medal and Lectureship, which will be awarded for the first time. This new award, as well as providing a medal and cash prize, provides the opportunity of a major lecture at an Oxford University college.

“The recipient will be selected as someone in the tradition of Albert Schweitzer, who has devoted his or her life to supporting people in the developing countries.”

The conference will have keynote speakers on March 26 and March 27 at the Sheldonian Theatre.
