'RELENTLESS focus' has guided a North Oxford primary school to a 'good' Ofsted.

Inspectors said St Philip and James' CE Primary School in Navigation Way has made improvements under leadership of a new headteacher, who joined in September.

Ofsted sent a letter to head Sarah Awuye stating: "Since your appointment you have relentlessly focused on raising standards.

"You have raised expectations and convey a clear message to all staff that pupils can and should achieve well.

"Pupils are very positive about the learning opportunities that are provided.

"Staff are acutely aware of their responsibilities to protect pupils from harm."

The letter, published yesterday, rated the 410-pupil school 'good' - matching its previous rating, awarded in 2012.

An inspector said there is still 'much to be done' to improve pupils' progress, but said leaders were well aware of this.
