AN OXFORD school has applied to create a temporary entrance to allow construction traffic access while it carries out major building work.

St Edward’s School wants to dismantle a listed stone wall so lorries and heavy machinery can get in and out of the site.

The school says it will mean construction traffic will be separated from other cars entering the school ahead of a project to construct a new hall, library and classrooms.

Permission is needed for the new entrance on Woodstock Road before building work begins in summer next year.

Work will also include levelling ground and removing some trees and bushes.

The proposals for the new buildings have been dubbed ‘Simeon’s Dream’, and were granted permission in 2016.

A statement supporting the application for the new entrance states: “We propose the complete separation of school and construction traffic.

“The construction route through the school to the site will be physically separated by the creation of a separate entrance to the site for construction traffic alone.

“The entrance should be positioned to provide the most direct route of access for construction vehicles whilst also being sufficiently wide enough to accommodate turning articulated lorries and cranes.”
