STAFF at an Oxford primary impressed inspectors with their ‘dedication and uncompromising ambition’.

St Barnabas’ Church of England Primary School in Jericho has maintained its Ofsted rating of ‘good’, according to a report released on Friday.

The Hart Street school, which teaches more than 200 pupils, was visited by the education regulator in October.

A report addressed to headteacher Fiona Hawkins stated: “You are a dedicated headteacher and uncompromising in your ambition for the school to continually improve and achieve the best outcomes for every pupil.

“Leaders have created an inclusive and caring environment where pupils recognise their cultural diversity and welcome new arrivals into the school’s caring community.

“All pupils benefit from a rich curriculum which is carefully planned to reflect their needs and interests.”

The inspector said by the end of their time at the school, pupils are ‘thoughtful, articulate and caring young people’.

‘Good’ is Ofsted’s second-highest rating, after the top standard of ‘outstanding’.

The inspector noted that progress in writing and mathematics of disadvantaged pupils was rising, due to a ‘sharp focus’ on planning and delivering lessons.

St Barnabas’ was last inspected in 2013, when it also received a ‘good’ rating.
