A TEACHER recruitment roadshow is coming to Oxford, following the revelation those applying for jobs in the county is at an 'all-time low'.

Last month, education experts told the Oxford Mail the high-cost of living was driving existing staff away and preventing talented, newly qualified teachers taking up jobs here.

Now, as part of the Government's Get Into Teaching campaign, which is aimed at encouraging more graduates into teaching, the roadshow will offer the chance for aspiring teachers to get all their questions and concerns answered in one place.

Roger Pope, from the Get Into Teaching campaign and Chair of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, said: “Good teachers are in demand and the career provides excellent employment prospects with the opportunity to progress quickly.

"Alongside the generous bursaries and scholarships on offer, we provide a comprehensive programme of support to help people become teachers."

He added: “The Train to Teach roadshow in Oxford isn’t only for graduates – every year, we see people from other sectors switching to teaching, bringing a wealth of experience to help inspire the next generation.”

Statistics collected by teacher vacancy website TeachVac showed a rise in the number of jobs advertised in Oxfordshire schools in the past year.

The figures reveal at least 386 jobs were advertised by the county's state and private secondary schools from January until mid October, compared to 353 in the same period last year.

The Train to Teach roadshow will visit the Macdonald Randolph Hotel on Thursday from 4:30pm to 8pm.
