COUNCILS are ramping up a campaign to stop people putting food waste into rubbish bins.

Recycling advisers from South Oxfordshire District Council and the Vale of White Horse District Council will be hitting the streets of southern Oxfordshire as part of recycle week from September 25 to October 1.

They will be speaking to residents and answering questions at supermarkets and other venues in Faringdon, Wheatley, Wallingford and Abingdon.

Councillor Tony Harbour, SODC's cabinet member for waste and recycling, said: “We have a great track record for recycling in South Oxfordshire, but there’s always room for us all to do even more.

"For example, we know from recent work we’ve done that there is more to do on food waste recycling – some people are still putting this into their grey rubbish bins, instead of their food bins.

"That’s why we’re pleased to support recycle week and encourage our residents to look out for the advice that will be coming out during the week and take the opportunity to speak to our advisers.”

Councillor Charlotte Dickson, Vale of White Horse District Council’s Cabinet Member for waste and recycling, said: "Recycle Week is a good chance to remind people of why it’s so important that we all recycle.

"Our advisers will be happy to answer any questions you have."
