THE winners of a writing competition will be recognised at an awards ceremony.

After penning a 50-word response to Oxford University’s competition ‘What does research mean to you?’, five youngsters from across the county’s secondary schools will be given a special keepsake, printed on the Bodleian;s historic printing press.

The event will also include mini-talks from five researchers who will share details of their ‘‘surprising research” from the evolution of fathers playing with their children, to the impact on literature of migration between Britain and India.

The competition winners to be recognised on Tuesday are: Oliver Gibson from John Mason School, Minnah Aslam from Headington School, Nicholas Sawyer from St Edward’s School, Jackson Cook from King Alfred’s School in Wantage and Stan Majewski from St Gregory the Great Catholic School.

The competition is part of a series of activities leading up to the university’s Oxford’s Curiosity Carnival, which is planned for Friday, September 29.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Weston Library on Tuesday, starting at 6pm.
