OXFORD author Philip Pullman joined forces with other writers to raise funds for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.

A fundraising auction supported by authors including Mr Pullman, Jacqueline Wilson and Margaret Atwood raised more than £150,000.

Mr Pullman agreed to name a character in the second instalment of his new series, The Book of Dust, in memory of teenage school pupil Nur Huda el-Wahabi, who died in the tragedy.

Following the auction Mr Pullman tweeted that he looked forward to ‘writing about Nur’.

The Book of Dust will be a companion trilogy to His Dark Materials, with the first instalment due in October.
