AN environmental charity is opening its doors to encourage more people to become volunteers.
Earth Trust will be teaming up with national Volunteers’ Week between Thursday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 7 to offer taster sessions and the chance to join its land management work parties.
Volunteering development manager at the trust Hannah Mackie said: “We’re starting up a new volunteer veg growing group, a sort of community allotment here at the Earth Trust Centre, and we need all hands on deck during this first session to prepare the ground and build raised beds.
“Volunteers who join this group will decide what’s grown and get to take home some of the delicious produce, when it’s ripe and ready of course.
“Our volunteers are amazing, we really couldn’t achieve as much as we do without them.
“People often regard volunteer positions at the Earth Trust as purely conservation work, but we really do offer such a broad spectrum of positions, from supporting our fundraising out in the local community, to analysing research data, to lending a helping hand at children’s events.”
