A PRIMARY school rated good by inspectors has keep its rating following a short inspection.

Charlton-on-Otmoor Church of England Primary School near Kidlington was subject to the short inspection in April.

They are carried out on schools already rated good or outstanding to make sure they are still meeting high standards.

Headteacher Ally Morgan, who started last September, was said to have made many positive changes and improvements to the school.

In a letter to Ms Morgan inspector Sue Cox said: “Parents speak warmly of the changes you have introduced and have confidence in the school.

“One parent

told me, ‘My child is thriving, loves coming to school and is challenged every day.’

“Children get off to a good start in the early years and make good progress.

“They are confident, independent learners and show curiosity and interest in their learning.

“Early reading and writing are developed well and children are able to apply their phonic skills to read unknown words.”

Pupils were said to feel happy and safe and spoke positively to inspectors about how they always feel able to speak to their teachers.

Ms Cox said the school could improve further if leadership and governance were strengthened through more sharply focused evaluation and improvement planning.

She also said more pupils in Key Stage 2 should make progress in writing.
