A LARGE part of a coin collection owned by Corpus Christi College has returned from the Ashmolean Museum.
The coins, dating from 500BC to 1600AD, had been on semi-permanent loan at the Beaumont Street institution since 1932.
They are used widely in teaching, outreach and research work and have returned to the college until the end of the year.
The collection is a result of many benefactions and some chance discoveries and includes examples from Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Rome, Syria, Byzantium and England.
Among the collection are examples of a series of gold coins of Philip II of Macedon and Alexander the Great.
There are also early English coins from the reign of Edward the Confessor.
