A NEW walking festival this spring will invite intrepid trekkers to explore one of Oxfordshire’s Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The inaugural Chilterns Walking Festival calls on experienced and novice walkers alike to take in the landscapes, traditions and lifestyles of the Chilterns AONB.

The event will run from May 15 to 29 with a program of more than 80 walks, talks and other events.

They include an ‘ancient feast’ walk, including an Iron Age menu and woodland walks around Chalfont exploring outdoor bushcraft, foraging and bread making.

There will also be ‘have-a-go’ Nordic Walking events, an electric bike tour and a medicine walk.

The festival organisation has been funded by cash from an EU LEADER grant.

Annette Venters, people and society officer at the Chilterns Conservation Board, said: “We are tremendously excited about the Chilterns Walking Festival.”
