AN earth sciences expert has written a book about volcanoes which coincides with a new exhibition at Oxford’s Bodleian Library.
Volcanoes: Encounters Through the Ages by David Pyle, professor of earth sciences at Oxford University, analyses volcanic eruptions around the world, using original illustrations and first-hand accounts.
Illustrations include fragments of scrolls which were buried followin the eruption of Vesuvius that destroyed Pompeii.
The book is published by the Bodleian price £20 and the exhibition runs from Friday, February 10 to Sunday, May 21.
