GIRLS football in Oxford has been given a boost after Summertown Stars AFC and Oxford High School signed a partnership with the county FA.

Both have signed a school-club link document –a partnership which aims to help schools and clubs develop sustainable partnerships.

The overall aim is to create teams and recruit players for clubs whilst ensuring extracurricular activities for schools.

Both sides will share facilities and run courses to increase the number of referees at Summertown Stars and the number of young volunteers.

Development officer for girls football at Summertown Stars Matt Richardson said: “This is an exciting opportunity for Summertown Stars AFC, and we are delighted that Oxford High School are prepared to work closely with us to develop girls football within the local community.

“Interest in girls football is growing very quickly and it’s a great way to make friends, have fun and keep fit.”

Oxford High School teacher Liam Gilbert said: “We are delighted to be able to support our local community in this and to offer our girls a chance to develop leadership skills whilst enjoying a sport that they love.”
