OXFORD University has been named the third best in the world in a new ranking.

It was also named second best in the UK, behind Imperial College London.

The Round University Ranking looked at 692 institutions from 80 countries, whittling them down to the top 100.

Key areas looked at by the research were teaching quality, research, international diversity and financial stability.

"A reputation for research will attract talented graduate students who will boost ranking scores, which will attract able undergraduates and so on."
