TWO road humps have been proposed in Northway as part of a scheme to reduce flooding there and in Marston.

Oxfordshire County Council is asking people for their views on the humps in a public consultation.

One would go in Westlands Drive, about 33 metres northeast of the junction with Saxon Way, with another proposed in the Westlands Drive service road about 13 metres northeast of Saxon Way.

They would be six metres wide and no higher than 190mm, the council said.

It would be part of the £2.2m Northway and Marston flood alleviation scheme, which was approved by Oxford City Council earlier this month.

The first phase of the scheme to guard against severe flooding will include landscape barriers at Northway Community Field to create a flood storage area, road re-profiling at Westlands Drive and Saxon Way and flood resilience measures at Oxford Boxing Academy.

The road humps have been designed to ensure that the ‘out-of-bank’ flood water flowing from Headington Hill tributary can be channelled effectively into the storage area in the community field.

It will help to divert water away from 110 properties currently at risk of flooding in the Northway and Marston area, the county council said.

The consultation ends on September 2. To comment visit consultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk
