FRONTLINE staff from Oxfordshire’s ambulance trust will help provide emergency care for Olympic spectators.
Fourteen frontline staff from the South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) have volunteered to help the London Ambulance Service.
They will join 440 NHS ambulance staff who will provide emergency medical assistance in London over the next three weeks, including 200 from outside the capital. An additional 20 SCAS frontline staff will be deployed to Eton Dorney Rowing Centre at Dorney Lake, Berkshire, to provide emergency medical cover for the Olympic Rowing events.
James Amos, SCAS resilience and specialist operations manager, said the move would not impact on frontline services in this area.
He said: “We are pleased to have supported the Olympic Torch on its journey through our region and proud to be involved in providing emergency medical support at the Games.
“So far as day-to-day services across our region are concerned, we have planned very carefully to ensure there will be no adverse impact on services here as a result of our staff supporting the Games in the capital.”
It is understood the staff are volunteers not on the normal ambulance staff rota for that period.
