Sad to hear of the mans demise but i have to say that i work in a builders supply depot and even though it says wait at main doors to be served most builders/customers will just walk in When they find you ..it might be as you are removing a pallet of plaster down from a stack next thing you know they are walking round you engaging in conversation as if they are the most important thing there. I have told many just to wait if i catch them early but to no avail they all want their stuff yesterday and they are the most offended if you say "please wait i will be with you as soon as i can".We have a policy where we will stop to serve if customers arrive even when unloading a delivery even then they will approach you because they are the important ones "not to be kept waiting" my times more important than anyone elses. We have signs up saying beware of fork lifts, please wait to be seen, no entry without staff, sadly they might aswell say nothing, we have been sent a notice about this incident but we are aware of the problem sadly customers arnt......

yes i totally agree with connaughtgreen, a tragic accident, pure chance this doesn't happen on a regular basis, i work for a builders merchant which is owned by the multinational that owns Jewsons. I can say that H&S is paramount but due to the downturn in the building sector, redundancies have led to the remaining staff being overstretched and can lead to rushed actions, which can cause accidents.
