PLANS are well under way for the St Nicholas Festival which will take place in Alcester in December.
The event will be celebrated with a winter street market in the centre of town, where traders and local groups will set up stalls selling festive produce, giving half of their profits to charity.
High Street will be closed for the evening, from 5-9.30pm, and there will be a procession before the official opening and fireworks at the end.
The Rev David Capron, rector of Alcester and president of Alcester St Nicholas Rotary Club which has taken the lead on the event, said: "On the continent they take this festival very seriously and exchange gifts on this feast day. In the past it was also celebrated with the installation of a Boy Bishop who exercised full Episcopal jurisdiction for the day. We shall re-enact this ceremony, but obviously without the jurisdiction part!"
The festival is on December 6.
