Cancer survivor fronts fundraising campaign

A TEENAGE cancer survivor was joined by her former nurse, family and friends to launch a campaign to raise millions of pounds.

Sophia Steinsberg, 13, from Radley, has been chosen to front Tesco’s year-long campaign to find funds to provide Clic Sargent nurses.

The St Helen and St Katharine School pupil was visited at home by Clic Sargent nurse Liz Leigh, while undergoing chemotherapy.

On Thursday, Sophia, who has been told by doctors the disease is unlikely to return, was at Tesco, in Marcham Road, Abingdon, to launch the campaign. She said: “Liz was incredibly helpful to me. Having her visit at home meant I didn’t have to spend so much time in hospital and could even go to school. It feels weird knowing my face is on collection tins in Tesco’s throughout the country but I’m proud because hopefully it will help the charity.”

As reported earlier this week, Sophia was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma – bone cancer – in her knee in December 2008.

She had six bouts of chemotherapy.
